Conner's Cause for Children is deeply grateful to all those who attended or donated to our 15th Annual Gala "Waves of Love" at the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla on October 11, 2008. Thanks to your support, this year's Gala raised over $62,000 for families struggling with the financial burdens of caring for a child with a life-threatening illness or injury.

Happy Birthday, Venezia!

 Venezia was born with lissencephaly, a rare brain disorder which causes seizures. Her family first turned to Conner's Cause for help two years ago. Since then, her mother, Veronica has been one of our super volunteers, helping out at fund raising events. When Venezia turned three on September 21, her mother and father asked guests at her birthday party to make donations to Conner's Cause. Veronica would like everyone to know "we are very grateful there is an outstanding organization
helping families with critical kiddos with out of pocket medical expenses."

As you sit down to Thanksgiving dinner.......

 The families assisted by Conner's Cause for Children are finding it more difficult than ever to meet the out of pocket expenses that come with caring for a critically ill child. Although
gas prices have decreased, the costs of food and other basic household expenses continue to rise. Budget cuts in public health care funding and services, as well as limitations in private insurance coverage, have left families with more medical expenses to cover, at a time when a number of families have lost income or jobs.
Each week, Conner's Cause distributes hundreds of dollars in grocery gift cards and gas cards to needy families struggling to care for their children with life-threatening and life threatening illnesses. We help families make co-payments for hospital visits, medications and special equipment not covered by insurance, as well as essential household services, such as water, gas and utilities.
As the holidays approach and you gather for celebrations with family and friends, please think about lending a helping hand to our very special families.

About Conner's Cause for Children

Over fourteen years ago, a group of local families founded Conner's
Cause for Children to carry on the legacy of Conner Champ. Each year,
Conner's Cause helps over 300
families in three counties take care of their very sick children
through financial and in-kind assistance with out of pocket medical
costs and simple, but critical expenses such as gas cards, food and
utility bills.
Conner's Cause is the only area organization offering assistance to these families,regardless of a child's specific diagnosis.

The average income of Conner's Cause families is under $20,000. As the holidays approach, many of them turn to us for extra assistance so that they can buy a few presents for their Conner's Cause child and siblings. You can bring joy to a family in need by by "adopting" a family for the holidays.
